WWOOFing in Bjergsted

Well, let's see, I get up around 8 am. Have coffee. Tool around on the computer. Walk 40 minutes to work because my hosts won't get off their lazy asses... no, I walk so the cheese doesn't go straight to my ass.

At work, remember it's a food distribution company, which means they buy food from farmers and then sell it to schools, restaurants, etc. OK, back to me, so I've separated bad produce from the good produce. For example, I've removed rotten onions from the fresh onions, weighed the waste and documented it. Other duties included sweeping and washing the cooler floors. Today, I prepared orders and vacuumed.

After work, I walk home, again, and chill around the house. Usually take a little nappy-nap, eat dinner, read, and hit the sack. This town ain't the most happening place, no nightlife, at all, but that's OK. When I leave on Saturday, my next 2 months will be none stop traveling.

You may ask, Why the hell is she doing this? Well, for the 3-4 hours of work I do daily I get free housing and food. But most importantly, I get to meet and socialize with locals. And I get to chat with my wonderful hosts. Since being here, they've taken me to 2 parties, so I've met even more Danes.

Meeting locals is one of my missions on this trip. I want to see how people live and talk it up with them.

Hi Brooke, I heard that Denmark moved to protect bank deposits over the weekend. Our stock market tanked today, around an 800 point drop. It recovered enough to end around -350 (? I think...)
Anyway, what are people saying about the american economy there, since it seems to be affecting the world?

there's a saying something along the lines of: when the US catches a cold, so does the rest of the world. so, yes, the financial crisis is spreading.

Europeans I've spoken to blame it on big business gone out of control, and Bush. It's another example of how Republicans have run this country into the ground. They hope Obama wins.

They also feel bad for Americans who are losing their homes. They find it almost unbelievable that this is happening to the US.

And they find it to be a form of Socialism. Which I agree, this is not a free market system, it's corporate Socialism! Check out this article, you may be interested.

Brooke,

You are correct the financial crisis is spreading. But Eurpoe was in trouble at the same time we where.

England was and is having the same problems with their housing market.

It is time that we had a depression. All things go in cycles and this is one of them.

Hope all is well. I am not sure I want to sort rotten food though. Sounds groos.

Your friend Tina

Re Tina's comments, she's right. And the Danes are experiencing unusually high foreclosures, not as bad as the US, but it's expected to get worse. They see the 2 causes: 1)people trying to get rich off their houses, ie, buying cheap old house, renovating it and then selling for high. So now people are in over their heads with more than one mortgage. 2)The dramatic increase and now decrease in home values. Sound familiar?

Tina-

Funny you should say it's time for a depression - a lot of Danes don't think Congress should bail out the Banks, and if it causes a depression, so be it.

Check ya later Tina Baby!
